Croshaw’s journey to top grade yields messages for every CSUFC player

When Felix Croshaw first laced up his boots and took to the field for CSUFC, he was a Fourth Grade Stag. Fast forward 12 months, the very same young man is an integral cog in the midfield of the club’s Premier side.

Croshaw’s story is one of consistent performance and a penchant for hard work, and one which each and every CSUFC player can learn from.

Arriving at Charles Sturt University in 2016, Croshaw was in the process of rehabilitating from a broken leg. As such, the central midfielder wasn’t afforded the opportunity to participate in the trial process in his first year.

As such, when ready for action he was slotted into Fourth Grade. He didn’t stay there for long as he continually bamboozled oppositions with his quick feet – scoring eight goals in the process. His skills were quickly noticed as he backed up for Third Grade regularly.

Second Grade soon called as Croshaw quickly became an integral member of a tight-knit Second Grade Red side. By the end of season 2016, the former Pittwater player had plied his trade in almost every grade – racking up goals and assists along the way.

Now in his second year with the club, the mercurial Croshaw is a regular starter for First Grade White and has consistently proved his worth to the club’s top side – scoring the match winner in the first ever CSUFC first grade derby as well as gathering two assists in seven appearances.

Croshaw’s story yields a clear message – if you’re good enough, you can play at the highest level regardless of what grade you are placed in.

“My advice to freshers is to get involved with as much of the social side of the club as possible, you always enjoy a football season more when you’re playing with people you get along with,” Croshaw said about CSUFC.

“For those striving to play in the top grades don’t stress if you start out low, there’s plenty of wriggle room and if you play well you do get given the chance to go up a grade or two.”

Croshaw will take to the field this Saturday as First Grade White takes on Panorama Red in a top of the table clash at Proctor Park.
