It was a bottom of the table clash as CSU Red travelled to Lithgow to take on Workies Black in a frenzy to grab crucial points.
The first-half was played out with CSU Red looking in great form, repelling all Lithgow attacks and creating some great opportunities. The half-time interval saw the scoreline at 1-0 in Red’s favour, with Joshua Decent finishing with an incredible strike following a quality overlapping run from left back.
Coming into the second half both teams raised their game, pushing for the points they both desperately need in order to avoid relegation. Lithgow created plenty of chances, however, rookie goalkeeper Alex Mills was able to repel all of their attacks, earning himself a clean sheet on debut.
The pressure faced by CSU Red’s backline only served to increase their attacking thirst. Young defenders, Caillin O’Neill and Blake Sanders, were instrumental in providing great width on the attack.
Sanders even managed to get forward and score a stunning volley, courtesy of an Aymon Bertah assist.
As the half drew on, CSU Red scored goal after goal.
Pierrick Jacquety earned himself three assists, Jake Rosengarten scored two great headers, and Aymon Bertah managed to pick out the bottom corner from distance. A great effort all round from the CSU Red boys who end a seven-game losing streak.
CSU Red have now accumulated 7 points to the halfway point of the season.
With nine games played, and nine to go, will they be able to climb back into the knockout stages? Only time will tell.
Their next game will be played on the 9th of July, when they take on Macquarie United at Proctor Park.
