CSUFC’s maiden mixed football team have fallen once again, though the scoreline failed to reflect the spirit put in by the inexperienced squad.
Lining up for their 7th match of the season, 4th grade mixed would welcome former 1st grade speedster Mitch Kunnen into the side, as the midfielder looked to return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
CSUFC would start strongly in the match, though a handful of defensive lapses allowed for Panorama FC to slot two early goals with a number of through balls exposing the lack of speed in the students’ back line.
The mixed outfit created a host of attacking raids with forwards Naomi Keith, Eden Stubbs and Nathan Maher coming close on multiple occasions. However, fundamental errors throughout the side saw Panorama continue to apply pressure up front.
CSUFC would concede a further two goals, heading into the break 4-0 down.
The side would be refreshed in the second half as renewed vigour from the backline saw them muscle up and keep the ball away from the danger end.
Backs Kirrily Lazarus and, Alison and Rachel Gibbon, in particular, muscled up against a physical men’s team, wearing a number of shots and dishing it back in impressive fashion.
Unfortunately for the mixed squad, a host of injuries, illness and fatigue would set in to undo the side’s good work. They conceded a whopping four goals in the final 15 minutes to incur an 8-0 loss to Panorama FC.
CSUFC will look to shrug off the loss as they turn their attention to their next match against Churches United, with the mixed team looking to avenge a 5-0 round one loss.
